Topeka, Kansas -- Several U.S.D. 501 students suffered injuries Monday morning when a vehicle ran a red light and crashed into their school bus.

The driver of the school bus and three children were treated for minor injuries following the accident which occured near the corner of S.W. 6th and Washburn. Fortunately, the school bus had just begun its morning route and had not picked up many children for the school day.

The car, driven by Stephanie Nickelson, 31, of Topeka, crashed into the side of the school bus after passing through a red light at the intersection. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Nickelson was released after recieving a traffic citation for the incident. Medical treatment was provided at St. Francis Health Center and all persons injured were released later in the day.
