Five Killed In Osage County Crash

Matthew BergmannApril 28, 2007 9:06 AMFive people, including two toddlers and three adults were killed in Osage County, Kansas on Friday after two vans collided head-on. The accident occured on K-268, just east of US-75 highway. At this point, the only known survivor of the tragedy is a 5-year-old boy who was rescued by emergency services and sent to a hospital in Topeka, Kansas with non-life threatening injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol stayed on site for more than four hours Friday afternoon trying to determine what exactly caused the accident. .
According to the highway patrol accident report, a 1992 Ford van was traveling eastbound on K-268 when it went left of the center line in a no passing zone and collided with a 1999 Dodge van. The highway patrol said it didn't know what caused the Ford van to cross the center line. Officials have confirmed that the 1992 Ford Van was driven by Charles Campbell of Wellsville, and that the 1999 Dodge van was driven by Rebekah of Quenemo.
Those killed were Charles Campbell, 63, Wellsville; Ramona Ball, 56, Ottawa; her grandson Elijah Ball, 1, also of Ottawa; Rebekah Davidson, 35, Quenemo; and Nora Davidson, 1, Quenemo. Abraham Davidson, 5, Quenemo, survived. Nora and Abraham are the children of Rebekah Davidson.
All but Abraham were pronounced dead at the scene. The highway patrol said late Friday that next of kin of all involved in the crash had been notified.
