High Hazard Industries in Kansas Targeted by OSHA

Local emphasis has been placed on high-hazard industry workplaces in Kansas. To combate the potential of on-the-job injuries OSHA's office in Wichita, Kansas is beginning a campaign to evaluate businesses with 10 or more employees who have not completed a comprehensive OSHA inspection since 1995.

Charles Adkins, CIH, OSHA regional administrator in Kansas City, said that the agency hopes to prevent accidents and illnesses before they occur by having high-hazard employers inspected. Adkins noted that the local emphasis program supplements the national Site Specific Targeting program, which annually identifies workplaces throughout the United States with high rates of injuries and illnesses.

Businesses that make the high-hazard safety list will receive a comprehensive safety inspection, while establishments identified on the high-hazard health list will receive a comprehensive health inspection. Any business named on both the high-hazard safety and health lists can expect to have both a comprehensive safety and health inspection.
